Bears starters Charles Tillman and Alex Brown are scheduled to return to practice Thursday, according to a league source.
Tillman was sidelined Wednesday while recovering from a mild concussion. He suffered the injury in Sunday's 36-10 loss to the Vikings after teammate Tommie Harris accidentally hit him in the head.
Tillman would not be cleared for practice if he showed symptoms of post-concussion syndrome, particularly under the tougher concussion guidelines established by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell Wednesday.
Left tackle Orlando Pace suffered a mild concussion at San Francisco Nov. 12 but played in the next game, a Nov. 22 home date with the Eagles.
The NFL statement on the new measures went as followed:
"Once removed for the duration of a practice or game, the player should not be considered for return-to-football activities until he is fully asymptomatic, both at rest and after exertion, has a normal neurological examination, normal neuropsychological testing, and has been cleared to return by both his team physician(s) and the independent neurological consultant. A critical element of managing concussions is candid reporting by players of their symptoms following an injury. Accordingly, players are to be encouraged to be candid with team medical staffs and fully disclose any signs or symptoms that may be associated with a concussion."
As for Brown, he sat out Wednesday's practice as well while nursing a bruised right calf. It remains unclear whether Tillman or Brown will be limited or full go Thursday, but having them back on the practice field is a good sign in preparation for Sunday's game against the Rams.
Linebacker Lance Briggs (knee, hip) and Pace (groin) are expected to be sidelined for the second straight day Thursday.
