Ron Artest admits to drinking during games while with Bulls

The Sporting News reports: Ron Artest says he drank alcohol during games as a member of the Bulls, in part because the team lost so frequently.

"I used to drink Hennessy ... at halftime," said Artest, who played with the Bulls from 1999-2002 and now is with the Lakers. "I (kept it) in my locker. I'd just walk to the liquor store (near the stadium) and get it."

Ron Artest admits to drinking during games, does mean that he is a drugg aditt he did what he like, iam agree with him.

Jealous that AI was getting all the attention, so you decided you wanted to take his place and be the "real badboy"? At least AI has talent and skills. What do you have besides your Hennessey?

Who cares??? It would not have made a difference if you were sober or drunk during that period. I am sure you have moved on and want to eventually get a championship.

that's a typo, right? it should read "artest says the team lost so frequently in part because he drank alcohol during games."

At least he was not doing drugs or steroids

Ron Fartest on December 2, 2009 5:41 PM

Class act.

Now drinking during the game as a Cubbie is completely understandable. They should try it.

I wonder if by admitting this he is opening himself up to any contractual liability. I don't know anything about the contracts these guys enter into, but I would have to guess that there is some standard provision that can be construed as requiring him to not drink Hennessey during a game.

Duh! And our sports columnists didn't have a clue this was going on! It's time to hire 7th grade girls to cover sports in Chicago. The morons at the mainstream media outlets don't have a clue. The Cubs will win the national league. The Bears will be a great play-off team with a franchise quarterback, .... The only people dumber than Chicago sports columnists are imbeciles. Season ticket bidders should sue the media for incompetence!

is anyone really that surprised???? He's a basket case and frankly supports My thoughts that professional sports is a "glorified form of slavery"; players are judged on their "physical" attributes. They are bought and sold. They are weighed, measured, and traded. Artest shows that he's not playing because he's smart.

Wonder what sort of substances were ingested during halftimes at the old Chicago Stadium during the '70s?

Now we j=know why he was so pissed during that pistons debacle: the thrown beer was "beneath" him!

I just had my best softball pitching performance last friday and I completely credit it to the 6 beers I pounded in the hour leading up to the game.

I also went 3-4 with 2 doubles.

Bottoms up Ron!

I always wondered if Dalibor Bagaric might have been sipping some vodka during his reign.

AllowMeToRephrase on December 2, 2009 2:28 PM

Interesting revelation. I wonder if I drank a 5th of Hennessey before listening to Ron's rap CD if he will sound better?

in other news, paint is drying...
ron artest is relevent how?

MOM ARTEST on December 2, 2009 1:47 PM

MOM is one the best things to happen to the NBA post-Chicago era. Dude applied at Circuit City.

Lighten up, people.

That's why the Bozo played B-ball like he was stoned.

And how many rings do you have, Ron?

Turn to WGAF

Gee, what a surprise!

Of course, there is a difference between taking a shot at halftime and being drunk. I played a lot of playground ball while sipping on an MGD or two. With the exertion involved I don't remember ever getting drunk. Now I showed up for a few games drunk... and that was a train wreck haha.

I am now ever more upset. I sat thru those games and he (Artest) didn't even offer to share. How rude.

Ron Artest is and always has been a PUNK. he's what's wrong with the NBA....The fact that Tim Floyd had no clue as to what he was doing, doesn't matter.

I thought everybody in Chicago was drunk pretty much all the time. Would you have wanted to be sober during the Tim Floyd era with the Bulls???

priceless

Another example from the Tim Flyod era on how he set Chicago basketball back 10 years. He didnt have control of the locker room obviously.

jorichards13 on December 2, 2009 11:10 AM

I think this is bs all Artest wants is publicity and by saying things like this publicity will always come his way. Did anyone see him on Late Night he did an interview in just his boxers, how can anyone trust someone who is crazy enough to do something like that for just a little added attention.

pathetic. I don't know about marijuana or cocaine, but trying to play basketball drunk is definitely more difficult.

I wish that the league did more to keep clowns like Ron out. It makes basketball less watchable to think that, despite making millions for a few hours of work each week, some players still want to disrespect the game.

Interesting that no Bulls players got in his a** about this; I guess once the paychecks get big enough everyone stops caring.

Who cares? He was playing basketball, not driving or performing brain surgery. Kind of dumb to admit this now though - I bet L.A. will watch him with a magnifying glass now.

Cheers! bottoms up!

Doc Ellis claims to have pitched a no-hitter while tripping on LSD in the early 70s while with the Pirates.

South O'Madison on December 2, 2009 10:25 AM

And all this time I thought Ron had a speech impediment. Personally my pool game hits full stride after a sixer of Olympias.

David Wells had a successful career in baseball while drunk.

So what? David Wells threw a perfect game drunk. You were a mediocre forward drunk.

Ron Burgundy on December 2, 2009 10:08 AM

This is getting to Rodman levels of "I wanna shock everyone with my actions." We get it Ron, you're crazy....who cares.

Why am I not surprised?
