ESPN.com reports: Is the Big Ten (11) ready to seriously consider becoming the Big Eleven (12)? If Wisconsin athletic director and former Badger football coach Barry Alvarez is right, the answer is yes.
ESPN's Adam Rittenberg reports that Alvarez told Wisconsin's athletic board Friday, "I have a sense [Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany] is going to take this year to really be more aggressive about it. I just think everybody feels [expansion] is the direction to go, coaches and administrators."
The Big Ten last expanded when Penn State joined in 1993. Could Notre Dame join the conference, giving them six-team divisions and a title game, like the SEC, the (other) Big 12 and ACC? Don't count on the Irish's independent streak taking a break.
