Pregame report from Stanford-Northwestern

Greetings from Welsh-Ryan Arena, where Northwestern will take on Stanford and vie for its eighth consecutive victory. The seven straight represents NU's best streak since 1993-94, when the Wildcats opened the season 9-0.

The atmosphere is already way better than it was for the last two games. With students on holiday break, there was no band, no cheerleaders and only a few purple shirts in the student section. No sign of cheerleaders yet, but the Lake Zurich High School band is playing.

Northwestern leads the Big Ten and ranks fifth nationally with an average of 10.4 3-pointers made per game. Point guard Michael "Juice" Thompson has made a team-high 26 treys in 61 attempts (42.6 percent).

A good sign for Northwestern: The Wildcats have had four different players lead them in scoring: Thompson (four times), Drew Crawford (two), John Shurna (two) and Jeremy Nash (one).
