Accompanied by a locksmith and movers, family members of the late Walter Payton showed up at the Walter Payton Roundhouse Restaurant in Aurora this afternoon to remove memorabilia of the Bears' Hall of Fame running back.
The family announced it has dissolved its partnership with Scott Ascher following a long-standing disagreement over money owed to the family. Ascher was not present at the time and not immediately available for comment.
"Jarrett, Britney and I would like to thank all the patrons who have supported the Roundhouse in memory of Walter and to the City of Aurora for allowing Walter to bear his name in a great city. We sincerely hope that an amicable solution can be reached and we can continue to be a part of this great endeavor," Connie Payton-Strotter said in a statement.
Payton family spokesperson, Kelly Woods added, "We have removed Walter's belongings from the museum, as all of the memorabilia was on loan. This is tough for the Paytons, who were left with no other choice."
Connie Payton-Strotter said, "It has been ten years, and I feel that we have been more than patient in the amount of time extended to the partnership and operators in their efforts to make the Roundhouse profitable."
The Payton family is represented by estate attorney Kelly Kramer.
"In (Walter Payton's) last will and testament, he specifically gave all of his memorabilia, including the items on loan to the Roundhouse, to Connie and the kids," said Kramer, who added that the family is legally pursuing having the Walter Payton name removed from the establishment.

We went to the Roundhouse for the superbowl, I love that place due to the Peyton name. I was even more estatic when I won a Peyton Pullover as the grand prize and was totally confused when i was told they were not making them anymore.
I in turn searched and found the above article.
Very disheartning to think that it is possible for Mr Ascher to do the things stated above. That was Walter Peytons Roundhouse, and now he has ruined that.
If it does go under, he has no one but himself to blame.
Had lunch there with my extended family on Wednesday, we hadn't been there in years.
Happened to run into Scot who gave us a very nice spontaneous tour and had nothing but nice things to say about the Paytons, as well as the Roundhouse.
It was my understanding that all Walter lent to the Roundhouse was his NAME.
Lunch is great, REASONABLE and less crowded.
I MISS Walter AND he was still there at the Roundhouse for me.
It can bring down your offline merchandising prices too if you get it ended the right way. Picking Up someone who not only does SEO but does the content creation and distribution for you as well as keyword research, updating content on your web site and blog, having professionaly scripted press releases at under prices as mentioned above is what suits many small business proprietors and yet there are many who attempt to do it themselves, they get lost as they dont have the cognition or the technical sciences to do it speedily and they renounce. Thank you for this article! I've just observed a decisively fantastic news portal about seo advertising Seek it!
My husband & I are greatly disturbed at this developement and support the Peyton family fully. It appears that this great establishment will very shortly be going under in the ownership of this clueless person. You do not treat anything related to Walter Peyton is this manner in this state let alone this country. Bye Bye Mr. Ascher! Can't say it's been nice knowing you. Former Roundhouse patron....nevermore!!!
There are two sides to every story!
Below is a letter that I sent to Scott Ascher, the current owner of Walter Payton's Roundhouse. I also sent it to the Tribune and Beacon News in Aurora.
Dear Mr. Scott Ascher,
As a paying customer, I would like to express my deepest upset with the current situation regarding your relationship with the Payton family. I believe it to be a disgrace that Walter's good name and the establishment he helped to create are being dragged through the mud.
In my many, many visits to Walter Payton's Roundhouse I have had numerous conversations with other regular guests as well as staff members about the way you are running the business. It is the general consensus that many of the changes you have made in the recent years, especially regarding personnel, have hurt, rather than helped, Payton's. I would specifically note the tift between you and former Comedy Club MC and Manager, Wes Sullivan, that ended in his departure as well as the removal of manager Lisa York.
I was once a regular to Walter Payton's Roundhouse. I used to love to go see Wes Sullivan and his comedians at Comedy Comedy and then stay for whatever band was playing that evening. I also used to watch almost every Bears game at Payton's. My friends, family and I enjoyed Payton's so much that two of my very good friends have held their wedding receptions there.
Payton's is how we lovingly referred to Walter Payton's Roundhouse. Now, with the recent news that the Payton family is seeking to dissolve all ties with you and your business, I find myself questioning whether I will even visit your establishment again. More so, I have a great desire to boycott it all together, and bring along every other patron I can gather.
In closing, I would like to assure you that the formerly great Walter Payton's Roundhouse that I loved to frequent, would, most certainly, not have become the great place I viewed it to be, without Walter's good name and keen vision. I refuse to refer to this once great place simply as "The Roundhouse" and absolutely will NOT be lovingly calling it Ascher's.
Sincerely,
Nicolas A. Wronkiewicz
A disgusted former patron.
That place rakes in the cash! Why couldn't they pay up??
I'm a regular and I brag to everyone I know that they should go there. I've been there 5 times in the last month.
What a shame...
There are a lot of Bears (and other football) fans who are regulars at the Roundhouse because of the connection to the Payton family. Since they have treated Walter's family and his memory so badly…..so long Roundhouse!
Seems as though the Roundhouse cease making payments once the Hall of Famer (Payton) passed on or was gravely ill. The Payton's did the right thing in cutting off the Payton name in that it was being misused. I will never eat there again. It's history for the Roundhouse.
