Notre Dame's new head coach, whoever he is, officially won't have one of the Irish's best recruiters at his service.
Rob Ianello has been named Akron's head coach and will be introduced at a Thursday press conference, according to the Akron Beacon-Journal.
Ianello, Charlie Weis' chief lieutenant for recruiting, had been running the Irish football operations since Weis' departure. He was the key cog behind an organized, national recruiting effort that significantly upgraded the talent on Notre Dame' roster.
"Rob brings a great amount of experience and a lot of energy, and is known as one of the best recruiters in the country,'' Akron athletic director Tom Wistrcill told the Beacon-Journal. ''We feel he is going to be a great leader for the players in our program. I have admired his growth as a football coach and we are excited to have him."
