Bears coach Lovie Smith declined today to acknowledge reports that Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has an interest in being the Bears' offensive coordinator.
"You'd like for me to comment on something that Charlie said?" Smith said. "I wouldn't know anything about that. We have an offensive coordinator in place right now. I can comment about that.''
Comcast SportsNet's David Kaplan first reported Weis' interest in the Bears last week during an episode of "Chicago Tribune Live."

Smith was asked how he felt Weis would do as an NFL coordinator, based on his prior success with New England.
"No idea how he would do,'' Smith said. "He was a good coordinator when he was back there then. That's about all I would say."

I am really enjoying reading your well written articles. It looks like you spend a lot of effort and time on your blog. I have bookmarked it and I am looking forward to reading new articles. Keep up the good work!
well your right Lovie will still be here as head coach and Ron is gone, Maybe bring in a D-Corrd for us to! This is the woast coaching staff the Bears have had in years
Laura said: "Their biggest mistake so far was trading away Orton and losing draft picks instead of revamping the entire O-line."
You got it half right. Trading KO for JC was OK. Imagine how much better JC and MF would be if the front office also had the foresight to obtain an O-line.
Lovie knows it makes no difference who the coordinator will be next year - he has no control over what is going on. He also knows the cheapskate McCaskeys will not fire him this year so they won't lose a boatload of money and instead saddle him with all new coordinator coaches. Of course, we all know the REAL problem is the cheapskate McCaskeys. Their biggest mistake so far was trading away Orton and losing draft picks instead of revamping the entire O-line. BIG big mistake that showed. If I had the money, I'd buy the Bears and put Steve McMichael in as head coach. OH well.
It seems to me we need an offensive coord and a defensive coord. That means BOTH Lovie and Turner should be gone. Lovie seems a little defensive these days. We can only wish his defense was a little defensive. The Bears need change....and rumors about Cower and Weiss are just what the Bears need. Cower and Weiss to Chicago. Make it happen Virginia
If Lovie Smith is giving an impression that he wants Ron Turner back then maybe Lovie Smtih should be fired as well.
People know extremely well who is the problem with the Bears coaching staff. It is Ron Turner who is the problem.
Now it is understood and I hope the rumor is that Ron Turner will be gone. However, that is really ignorant for Lovie Smith not to show any interest in a possible new offensive coordinator for the Bears.
Believe me if Lovie wants to keep his Head Coach job, he better entertain rumors of a new offensive coordinator commint to Chicago.
