Lovie Smith expresses sorrow over death of Bengals' Chris Henry

By Vaughn McClure

Almost two months ago, Lovie Smith watched Chris Henry score the game's first touchdown in Cincinnati's 45-10 thumping of the Bears. On Thursday, Smith and the rest of the football were shocked to hear the news of Henry's passing.

Henry, the troubled Bengals receiver who was starting to get his act together, died Thursday morning, a day after he fell out of a truck following a domestic dispute. Henry was 26.

"It's tough of course when you lose anyone, but a guy who is in our family of football, of course, it's tough," Smith said. "A young man. too. A full life ahead of him.

"That just goes to show you how precious life is. We can't take anything for granted. We're seeing each other today. One of us may not be here tomorrow. That's not my choice but it's still tough. Of course our prayers go out to his family."

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell requested clubs to observe a moment of silence before every game this weekend in memory of Henry.
