The Detroit Free Press reports: The Lions have placed quarterback Matthew Stafford on injured reserve because of a knee injury, meaning he is out for the season and will not face the Bears in the teams' final game on Jan. 3 in Detroit.
Stafford will have surgery on his right knee Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala. He sustained the injury against the Bears on Oct. 4, and the repair is being described as a minor procedure to clean out debris. Stafford also has been dealing with a left-shoulder injury.
