Patrick Kane feeling OK, ready to face Blues

Patrick Kane will play Wednesday when the Blackhawks take on the St. Louis Blues at the United Center.

Kane left Sunday night's 4-0 victory over the Lightning in the first period after sustaining an eye injury when he was tripped by defenseman Matt Smaby and the butt end of Kane's stick struck him just above the left eye.

"I'll be ready to go tomorrow," Kane said after today's practice. "Everything was good. I might try a tinted visor in the morning. Sometimes the lights hurt my eye. I think I have a cornea abrasion. It's a little painful but overall when I'm on the ice I don't even think about it."

Kane is sporting a black eye and six stitches and said he is taking steroid medication to avoid infection.

"At first when I saw the blood your first reaction when you can't see out of your eye is 'hopefully my eye is still there.' It could have been a lot worse."

Teammate Jonathan Toews, who missed six games earlier this season with a concussion, said he is feeling fine after Smaby knocked him down with a big hit later in the game. Toews was upended after the hit between the circles and hit the ice hard.

"Even the guys in the room said they were worried about me when they saw me get up," Toews said. "They thought I was out of it again.

"I just didn't see the hit coming. I was watching my shot and saw the rebound and wanted to go after it and all of a sudden this big body came in. No issues there. I can take a hit like that every once in a while. Obviously, you have to look out for it a little bit more but no problems at all."

One-timers: Cristobal Huet will get the start in goal against the Blues. ... Duncan Keith sat out practice but coach Joel Quenneville said the defenseman will play Wednesday.
