SAN FRANCISCO -- A person with knowledge of the negotiations tells The Associated Press that the San Francisco Giants have reached a preliminary agreement with veteran infielder Mark DeRosa on a two-year contract.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement has not been finalized. According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, it's believed to be two year deal with $12 million for the ex-Cub.

San Francisco also is working to finalize a contract to bring back infielder Juan Uribe, who was part of the White Sox 2005 World Series team. The 30-year-old began the 2009 campaign as a backup but wound up playing in 122 games at third, shortstop and second in his first season with San Francisco. He batted .289 with 16 homers and 55 RBIs.

In other ex-Chicago connections, the Diamondbacks have signed reliever Bob Howry to a one-year contract with a club option for 2011. The 36-year-old right-hander was 2-6 with a 3.39 ERA in 63 appearances with the San Francisco Giants last season.

Right-handed batters hit just .207 against him. Howry has a 44-49 career record in parts of 12 seasons with the White Sox, Boston, Cleveland, Chicago Cubs and San Francisco.

Howry grew up in the Phoenix area and attended Deer Valley High School in Glendale.
