After 50 years of working in the NBA, former Bulls assistant coach Del Harris offered his retirement at the end of last season. The longtime NBA fixture had teamed with fellow veteran Bernie Bickerstaff to help ease the transition for then first-year head coach Vinny Del Negro.
But Harris' retirement ended last month as the Nets staggered to an 0-18 start. Kiki Vandeweghe took over as head coach and Harris became one of his assistants.
"I worked with Kiki back when we were in Dallas (as assistant coaches)," Harris said before tonight's game between the 1-19 Nets and the Bulls at the United Center. "I have only signed up for 4 ½ months."
Harris, 72, previously has served as head coach for the Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers.
