The New York Daily News reports: Former Cubs catcher Henry Blanco, who interested the White Sox as a possible backup for A.J. Pierzynski, is close to signing a free-agent deal with the New York Mets. Blanco, 38, hit .235 with six home runs and 16 homers last season for the San Diego Padres.
