Briggs not worried about Williams taking his job

While reflecting on Jamar Williams' 20-tackle performance against the Rams, Lance Briggs was asked if he was afraid Williams would Wally Pipp him.

"Excuse me? So you're calling him Lou Gehrig?'' Briggs asked. "I thought his performance was great.''

Indeed, Williams performance might go down as the best individual effort by a Bears linebacker this season. But Briggs, whom Williams replaced as the starter at weak-side linebacker against the Rams, is back to full practice today off a left knee sprain and hip pointer. So Williams will have to make his impact elsewhere.

"It's not how many opportunities you get, it's what you do with your opportunities,'' Briggs said of Williams. "And he did the most with his. I think when you do that, you scream out for more playing time.''

Hey - we have another Cubs fan in the house!

Losers know losers and you are a LOSER! (Ut OH)

CUBS SUCK and so do the BEARS

What the Bears should do, and what Lance should be worried about (assuming he would want to stay) is try to trade Lance in the off season to recoup some of the lost draft picks.

Outside of Jay Cutler, Robbie Gould and maybe, maybe Chris Williams, the Bears have nobody who has any real value.

Trade Lance, keep Jamar Williams, get a pick or two to make up lost ground and be very active in Free Agency. There are WR's, OG's, and SS/FS's out there to be had.

The Bears are deep at LB as it is - Jamar Williams was going to take Briggs spot 2 years ago, and he has proven to be capable. Your playmaker in this crappy scheme is the WLB, and before you say put Williams at Sam or Mike, realize you will be comparing apples to oranges. He is a Will, plain and simple and he will do no worse than Briggs has done. Resign him and let him flourish at the Will spot - remember he was a 4th rounder just like Briggs, so it is not far fetched to think that Jamar cannot be a stud as a starter too. If I recall correctly, Derrick Brooks was not a star until he moved to the Will spot in this crappy scheme as well. If you going to run Cover 2, then you need a stud at Will because that is the man to make the tackles. The Mike (Urlacher) is the spot to help more in pass defense - that is what the Bears miss in urlacher, his freakish speed. Surely his piss poor tackling is not missed.

Leave Roach at SAM and then suck it up and see what Urlacher brings you next year. Hopefully with Lance we can get two second rounders, and maybe, just maybe we can get a late first rounder if lucky. Of course, Angelo will still be picking him, so we would be lucky and heartbroken all in one day.

Briggs doesn't have to worry about losing his job to Williams but Urlacher does!
