The assembling of Brian Kelly's Notre Dame staff took its initial, official steps today. The new Irish coach interviewed the holdover assistants from Charlie Weis' staff, while indicating in a published interview that he wouldn't bring over any Cincinnati assistants until after the Sugar Bowl.
A Notre Dame spokesman confirmed the interviews with the Weis staffers occurred Monday but said no decisions were made.
This after Kelly told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he'd hold off on bringing any Bearcats assistants to South Bend, Ind. for now, without identifying which ones he'd be most interested in. He also emphasized that he'd be happy to schedule his former team in the future.
"Absolutely, I would love to play the University of Cincinnati," Kelly told the Enquirer. "I think it would be a great game. We're going to look at the schedule. We'll definitely look at the possibility and see if we can pull it off."

Let's remember that this guy had to find 10 new starters for his defense this year and he STILL went 12-0. 12-0 is, as they say - 12-0.
I hope Cincy beats Florida in the Sugar Bowl. I don't think they will but I hope they do.
The Notre Dame of today is far from being the Notre Dame of yesterday. As a (certified) old fart I prefer the Notre Dame of yesterday, but that's my problem.
Good luck coach - as we used to say "kick ass and take names"
Anyone remember "Ara stop the snow"?
I like the BK hire and think that he has a proven record of developing players as a team and bringing passion to the game - you never know who will step up...like that Montana kid from off the bench a few years ago...he was pretty good when all was said and done, right? This ND team is hungry and BK will feed them (did you like that one?) Welcome Brian Kelly!!!
Teddy,
Get your facts straight. Dayne Crist was a five star recruit and after two years under Weis - reports have him with a better arm than Clausen who will go as the 1st NFL QB this draft. Sure he is nursing a ACL injury - but he will be back. One thing no one can take away from Weis is his ability to develop QB's (Brady, Quinn, Clausen) and recievers. You made the comment about no receivers??? Are you that clueless??? Floyd is rated as one of the top five. Kyle Rudolph is rated as the top TE. Add in five top rated WR recruits in line after Tate and Floyd - The Irish need not worry about receivers. Now a Defense --- I will give you that one. I am sure Coach Kelly will take care of that. He has proved where ever he has been that he develops players and fits his offense and defense around the talent he has.
GO IRISH!
What do you mean no QB, and receivers? (will admit there's no defense) Dayne Crist was one of the top quarterbacks out of high school, Michael Floyd was better than Golden Tate but was injured early, and there are several quality receivers behind him.
I love this guy! Can't wait till next season!
