Prepare for the whiplash: The Notre Dame coaching search may be reaching full throttle.
Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly confirmed through his Twitter account today that Notre Dame had contacted him and further discussions would take place.
"Just informed our team that Notre Dame has contacted me and I will listen to what they have to say," Kelly wrote.
Earlier today, ESPN reported that Kelly would interview with the Irish this week, and Kelly told the Dan Patrick Show "there's a chance I could look at another job."

Meanwhile, the New York Times reported
that Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick either will meet or
has met with Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh. The paper cited a person
briefed on Notre Dame's search process.
"Not now or not in the future will I talk about any other jobs or opportunities," Harbaugh told the paper when contacted.

Ken Adams= classy comment.
After the first year at UC, the press was questioning him on whether he would be staying. I remember vividly that he said his next move was to the pros and not another college. Things have changed, have they not?
BRING BACK LOU HOLTZ TO ND!!!!!
It should be stated repeatedly that Notre Dame no longer occupies the ultra-exclusive higher moral ground that they would have us peons believe that they do - if indeed they ever did.
They have high academic standards and a Notre Dame degree is worth more than one from LSU or some such. But there was a time when Notre Dame was the place where 1st and 2nd generation Catholic immigrants would scrimp and save to send their kids so they could get a good education in a strong Catholic environment and a start in the world. Those days are for the most part gone, and Notre Dame is, in my opinion, much the weaker for it.
In my opinion Notre Dame is CINO - Catholic In Name Only.
We Catholics don't handle success well.
Kelly has succeeded everywhere he has gone, starting in the boonies, actually the ultra-boonies, and now he has a team that is undefeated and ranked #5 in the country and that whipped Pitt coming from way behind.
Is he ready for the next step?
Notre Dame is irrelevant? Checked the rumors all over the internet, all over EVERYTHING AND EVERYWHERE?
I don't think so.

Why are there so many ignorant ND haters out there? You would think they would support one of there few Chicago area teams: NW, ND, IL & NIU. And for the morons that don't get why local papers cover ND look at a map sometime! CHICAGO DOES NOT HAVE A DIV. 1 FOOTBALL PROGRAM IN THE CITY LIMITS.

I'm speechless.
Major in geography at the ol' Golden Dome?
Dame had a winnigg coach when they hired coach willingham they should have given him more time to run and empliment his program the only reason they fired him so fast he was a black man. and I know I"m dame sure wright.
In my opinion Notre Dame should go for a winner and Kelly has won wherever he has gone. What has Harbaugh really done before this year? Didn't Willingham come from Stanford with a similar record? Take Kelly.
Oh H to the Yes! The Irish deserve Jimmy Hardball. LOSERS!
Still no mention of Paul Johnson or Skip Holtz, that I've heard, anyway. Both of those guys should at least be contacted.
Harbaugh is definitely best pick. Did you hear Kelly through his kicker under the bus at the half-time interview? Between that and his lack of academic support shown in his recruiting and being only offense-minded and mid-west limited. Harbaugh creative/resoursefulknows the mid-west and west so he's more of a nationa; player in recruiting plus he is an academic supporter that fits. TK

I can't see Harbaugh leaving Stanford for Notre Dame. He's doing just fine in the PAC 10.
my thoughts exactly little pig.
why would he or anyone for that matter leave the paradise of northern california?! palo alto, stanford, the ocean, the redwoods, san francisco, felton. need i say more?
well, maybe he would for an NFL position.
Interesting development here. I think Harbaugh would be the better choice of the two b/c he seems more well rounded particularly regarding defense. However, it really would come down to who could recruit more top level defensive players.
Best,
John Marshall

I don't think ND should put their standards aside and hire Brian Kelly. There are many rumors circulating about his past. I love ND and would not like to see them hire such a coach.
Didnt Kelly just assure his team that he wouldn't go anywhere?
"He said, 'It's not an issue; I'm not going there,'" safety Aaron Webster said of Kelly about a Thursday conversation. "He said, 'I love Cincinnati, and I'm staying here.'"
Kelly has chided the media for spreading what he called "misinformation" and added, "You folks need to get a handle on this, because it's ridiculous."
This is really quite simple. There are two reasons the Tribune reports on Notre Dame:
1. Chicago is the hub for ND alums; it holds the largest percentage of Notre Dame graduates who reside in one location. Meaning it is the location of ND's largest and most powerful alumni society. And ND has more alums giving support to their school than basically any other. Though you wouldn't guess from this board, there are a large amount of ND lovers in Chicago.
2. It gets this response from the haters. It's like asking why Jay Mariotti was even a sports writer? How could that guy get a job? It's because the Sun Times knew you hated him and would read. Look at you people-- every single time, you click on a Notre Dame article, read it, then spew off about how they are corrupt or a joke or their football program is irrelevant. Meanwhile, the fact is they aren't irrelevant because you sit here and make it relevant.
I hope the Irish got a good taste of how Kelly handles himself during a high-pressure press conference last night. When asked questions about his future, he chose to lie instead of just staying silent.
This is probably not what the Irish administration would be looking for when the hard questions are asked.

A former Wolverine as an Irish head coach? I guess if Brett Farve can be a Viking, anything is possible.
There is a strong Irish community in Cincinnati that would love for Brian Kelly to stay. Cincinnati is a fabulous place to live, work, and play, and Brian can build a great program and have be the toast of the town for years to come. There is much more that he can BUILD in Cincinnati. I love Notre Dame;its a great program with an outstanding tradition. The difference is that in Cincinnati, Brin Kelly can BUILD a tradition. My last visit to South Bend I represented Army in College debate. We lost in the finals. In this case, I hope Cincinnati WINS in thr finals. Whatever happens, though, Brian Kelly is a class act and I wish him well.
I do not care who is the coach at Notre Dame they will never be in the running to win the national title game when the school insists on students taking meaningful courses and obtaining better than a passing grade.
Schools like Texas, LSU, Alabama, USC and Michigan can recruit and retain students who barely pass their SAT's and have a high school grade point average of 2.0. Notre Dame has higher standards and will not even consider them. The aforementioned schools then discard them when they no longer play football and are not drafted by the NFL.
The alumni at Notre Dame should admit that the world is a better place when an individual becomes educated and contribute to society over the long haul.
Every coach has a clause in their contracts that allows them to move to another program. Their agents would let them take the job without the ability to get a higher salary.
Who cares ND is a Indiana University, how about reporting on IL, NW, NIU, SIU, WIU, EIU etc yada yada yada
1 Why is it okay for coaches at universities to break their contracts and their oral promises, but students are supposed to live by higher ethical standards.
2. Is it ethical for ND to ask a coach from another school to breach his contract? Shouldn't a school that is built on ethics and morals shy away from such behavior?
2. The sports programs at these institutions should be stand alone enterprises that are simply sponsored by a college. Do a reverse of the nike and adidas contracts. Then the players who risk their lives by playing can get some decent money
Brian Kelly - I wish you continued success where ever you go. I think most of Cincinnati understands that if after you run the table and don't get a 'whiff' of the Big Game and the opportunity to get on a bigger stage comes along - Man, go for that 'Brass Ring'. Opportinities like Notre Dame don't come around very often. Thanks for your time and effort in Cincinnati.
i think we just assume that everyone is a free agent and regardless of what they claim to say, they are all open to other opportunities.
getting a bit frustrated with the "i have no interest, will not talk with anyone else" bit, and then come to find out that "yes, i am now talking with XXXX university". Call it like it is and be honest with people.
