Bears biding their time with Gaines Adams

A Bears teammate approached Gaines Adams on Sunday during the game against the Rams at Soldier Field and asked about the defensive end's health. Adams said he was fine as he stood on the sideline in street clothes.

It seemed a bit strange that a guy the Bears traded a second-round pick for would be inactive down the stretch, with the organization in the midst of the evaluation process.

"It comes with the game,'' Adams said. "I'm still learning. Coaches make the call and I go with it. They have their better decisions, and they know what's right and what's not right.
"I'm not focused on any of that. I'm just going to continue to try to do what I do, just get better. I just want to help this team any way possible.''

Adams started the first five games of the season while a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being traded Oct. 16. He was inactive for the Oct. 18 game at Atlanta, then made his Bears debut the next week at Cincinnati. Adams has not recorded a sack in a Bears uniform and has just one this season.

Bears coach Lovie Smith said the reason he went with rookie third-round pick Jarron Gilbert over Adams is because he viewed Gilbert as a better run-stopper.

"Not disappointed in Gaines at all,'' Smith said today.

Assistant head coach Rod Marinelli, the defensive line guru, had this to say about Adams last week:

"Athletically, I just like the movement and all those things. It's just the handling of our fundamentals, the discipline of our assignments are key.''

With Adams inactive, the Bears were able to give Gilbert a look. He played three snaps, all at defensive tackle.

"I thought I was going to be used more at end,'' Gilbert said. "I think I did OK. The Rams didn't really go my way. Two of the runs, they went away from me. It just felt good to get out there."

All you fans do is complaint about the players. You guys get out there and do what they do, don't get mad because they get paid all that money and you don't. I bet if they put some of the fans on the field none of you guys would know what to do. The only thing you guys do is sit around and talk about what player not doing what.Gaines Adams is a good ball player and Tampa still not winning any games ....so who do you blame now Gaines gone. So until you walk these players shoes stop talking....

It's one thing to miss with a draft pick. It's another thing to trade for a guy who has been in the league and is an obvious bust. Was Angelo watching Adams' college film when he made this terrible trade? And how about Lovie saying he's not disappointed in Adams??? This is disheartening.

Pretty pathetic. With no potentials for the playoffs, why not play these guys and see what you've got. It is another poor coaching decision and should be reason why Lovie should be let go at the end of season. Doesn't make sense. Angelo should also be fire for trading next year's 2nd round pick for this guy. Unbelievable they can't find playing time for a team under below .500. Its also unbelievable that our other draft picks, Iglesias, DJ Moore, Gilbert, Aromadashu aren't finding time on the field either...

Too bad it wasn't Jerry Angelo demoted. It was his brilliant move that brought this guy to Chicago.

Guess what, I live in the Tampa area. I am still a die hard Bears fan. But I also watch the Bucs. This guy was the epitomy of terrible.

It doesn't happen often when ex-nfl players call out players. Guess what Gaines Adams was repeatedly called out in Tampa. Most of the retired guys thought he was dogging it.

The general consensus was that he was a gigantic bust.
