Angelo takes issue with Urlacher comments

By Vaughn McClure

Bears general manager did have a problem with Brian Urlacher speaking out about the team's struggles during Urlacher's interview with Yahoo! Sports.

Urlacher, who is out with a wrist injury, questioned the identity of the offense and had some criticism toward Jay Cutler and Matt Forte.

"Certainly I had issues with that,'' Angelo told WBBM-AM 780. "Things are tough. We don't need anybody within making it tougher. We want to stay focused on the job at hand, and that's winning each and every week. That's where our focus needs to be. That's where all our energy needs to be. At the end of the season, then we look at ourselves and evaluate the things that need to be evaluated, fix the problems, and again come out better. But right now everybody that's a Chicago Bear needs to be pulling for the Chicago Bears.''

Urlacher apologized to Forte earlier in the week.

I must tell you, your piece goes to the heart of the topic. Your lucidity leaves me wanting to know more. Allow me to instantly grab your feed to keep up to date with your site. Alleging thanks is simply my little way of saying great job for a fantastic resource. Accept my best wishes for your inflowing publication.

Who in the hell is Angelo to criticize Urlacher? Angelo has made more mistakes doing his job than anyone on the Bears roster who is trying to do theirs. Appears Urlachers comments made some sense after the game against the Rams they played better and the running game was better. If you have played the game then you can talk when asked questions, until you play then shut up-ANGELO! If you had been doing your job then there wouldn't be these talking incidents. The Bears would be 9-3 and getting ready for the playoffs. Truth be told, I bet there are a lot of players that would like to make comments but you can't bite the hand that feeds you. Not many people like Ditka around anymore to do what he did when he criticized Halas back in the 60's. For you youngsters he said something to the effect that Halas throws around nickles like manhole covers when he asked for a raise and was refused. Once more just shut up ANGELO!!!!!!!

Jerry Angelo is to the Chicago Bears what Matt Millen was to the Detroit Lions!!! Soon We are going to watch the Lions pass the Bears on their way to the top, as the Bears assume their cellar dwelling position, at least unitl they get rid of Angelo, Smith, Turner---Please Oh PLEASE get rid of Turner!!!!!

Obviously; there is no free speech for Bears players. Urlacher was "calling em as he sees em". Did he say anything that wasnt true? So; Bears management has no accountability; and would rather bash a player that is outspoken? This team is not the same team that Urlacher first came to; and he should realize they have "sold out" the fans for profit.

Larry Watson on December 7, 2009 8:23 AM

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

All the people who think Urlacher's overrated are soccer fans. It's pretty sad that the team captain has to keep his mouth shut nazi germany style. It's nice to know that the GM and the coaches want to be held accountable for nothing. The Bear's suck, go get Bill Cowher and Charlie Weis.

1concerned1 on December 6, 2009 10:00 PM

Angelo should have a problem with the way that he drafts. He also should have a problem with being held hostage for a huge contract increase by the most overrated trailer trash player in the league. Urlacher-don't you have a illegitimate child or two to look after?

to the guy writing in all caps: wow, chill out

BevHills90210Richard on December 6, 2009 9:55 PM

Jerry,

Hey kettle, you're black.

The team has already given up on you and the coaches. Regardless of any injuries, the team has no heart!

This large-market once prestigious franchise is now an embarassment to the NFL and the great fans of Chicago.

Fact-O-Life on December 6, 2009 9:55 PM

Just reading these comments I hope everyone see's the MENTALITY of this organization. NO CRITIQUING anything about this team, from anyone, because you can HURT SOMEONE'S FEELINGS...and, and, that's just hurtfull...BOO-HOO! And they DON'T DO ANY EVALUATING during the season, like Angelo said, so if they SUCK during the year...DON'T EXPECT ANY CHANGES...they'll just DO IT after the season's over! What a bunch of anal exhaling from one of the major problems with this UN-organization. GO GREENBAY, KICK THE SHIII-AT OUT OF THESE TEDDYBEARS!!!!!!

Nipsy Russell on December 6, 2009 9:28 PM

I am sick of this entire team. Fire Angelo, Love and dump all these over paid under achievers. If they could play half as well as they run their mouths, they'd be in first place.

mike jones on December 6, 2009 9:14 PM

Suppose a leader player of the Bears told a reporter " If Urlacher would do a better job of conditioning he woulden't have been nursing a bad back last year and noticeably not as effective or out this year. In my opinion that is the same as him running his mouth right or wrong.

It's funny- people said cutler is a bad teammate, when really, urlacher's the bad teammate.

Jaime Rivera on December 6, 2009 8:57 PM

Being a team member and one who is an ALL-PRO, alot more to say than DeAngelo, Urlacher has every right to complain how the team he plays for and is a part of to say what's needed to give incentive and motivation to the team because the GM, as well as the coaches sure aren't....

Strange. We have to have a star player call the team out each week in order to get them to be motivated for the up coming game. Who's going to do it this week. Cutler?

hey Angelo! Suck a D*ick! You have been steadily eroding OUR team since you got here when Wannstedt was still coaching. DONATE YOUR SALARY TO CHARITY AND HANG YOURSELF!!!

Jerry doesn,t get it. His evaluation of coaching talent is a joke, he brings in these head coaches (Lovie, Jauron)that have one good year and then let these coaches bring o coordinators in (shoop, turner) who couldn't run a high school offense bring our team below respectibility, ever wonder why these guys never get promoted beyond the bears organization or if they do it's to Buffalo! And on top of it all the hypocrite doesn't like how Urlacher air'd his dirty laundry in the media, but then does it himself with Urlacher. Idiot!

i here u big b...some one has to answer and it starts from the gm

J. Angelo said:
"At the end of the season, then we look at ourselves and evaluate the things that need to be evaluated, fix the problems, and again come out better."

Did we heard the same song & dance last year? Just asking...

Urlacher: Overrated and overinjured.

Oh, shut the **** up, Jerry. Urlacher was only expressing what so many have us have been thinking. In fact, the way I see it, he didn't go far enough in his criticism. He should have absolutely hammered you. After all, you are the one who was/is responsible for actually going out and getting people who can actually contribute. What good is a QB or RB when they aren't protected at all? Is Cutler all of a sudden Big Ben? And how can Forte do well when the line makes a hole for him only once in a blue moon? You have allowed this team to slide into mediocrity. The defense is no longer even close to the defense that this franchise prides itself on- a smash you in the mouth defense. The offense is offensive, the coaching is abysmal, and you don't seem to have a clue. That's what is the worst part of it all- You actually seem to think that this team can actually win games against teams that aren't mediocre like us.

If you have any decency, you would resign after this season, right after you've fired the rest of the Three Stooges.

FIRE ANGELO!!!!!!!!! HE'S MAD BECAUSE SOMEONE IS SPEAKING UP THAT ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT WINNING AD THE TEAM! BRIAN IS A A+ MULTI PRO BOWLER FUTURE HALL OF FAME PLAYER UP SET ABOUT THE GARBAGE! WHAT A JOKE MONEY THAT COULD HAVE WENT TO A PLAYER WE NEEDED ON THE FIELD WE WENT AND PUT IT IN TO THE ULTIMATE LOSER TO BRING HIS LOSING WAYS WITH HIM WITH A CLUELESS COACH AND GM AT THE HELM. WOULD RATHER HAD A GOOD RECEIVER AND THAT MONEY GO TOWARDS SOME THING WE NEED. THEY HAVE NO CLUE TO MONEY MANAGEMENT!!!!!!!! GREAT COACHES ARE ON THE MARKET READY YOU BETTER START BUYING OR WE THE FANS WILL SLOWLY STOP SHOWING UP.NO BODY LIKES A LOSER WITH NO POTENTIAL TO DO NOTHING BUT LOSE. AND YOU GUYS WENT AND BUILT AROUND THAT! WHAT A JOKE BUT NO ONE IS LAUGHING.

Angelo needs to speak on what are future is looking like as far as how were gonna change this loosing team to a winning team. we shouldve beat the 9ers and the Falcons but poor play calling on the offense couldnt get us there. Despite the cutler pics we shouldve one these games. ANGELO FOCUS YOU ATTENTION ON REALITY RON TURNERS PLAYCALLING and OUR O LINE....URLACHER shouldve kept his mouth shut but he called it like he saw it.....

looooooooooossssssseeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr

There is something called Professionalism. Urlacher may be right, and his comments came while watching the game and emotions run high (like the rest of us), but he should have kept his mouth in check knowing that there was a reporter in the room.

gotta agree with Brian .... calling a few out names hurt some feelings including Angelo's.

WHo's the loser Angelo?

We prove what Brian was saying by "shal-lacking" of SL today ...

side note: NFL REFs stink. What is the purpose if they can't see the game? Fat, Old, part time employees? WHY?

I am sure Urelacher knows this team will not win for several years and this is his way of nudging himself out the door. Remember, most former Bears are on winning teams. I realize there is not any defensive line in front of him so he gets hit alot and has to cover 15 yards back and side to side. All former players know what I mean. Let's clean house first with management and then coaching.

Angelo you're fired!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brian, great job calling a spade a spade.

It is very easy to talk about what needs to be fixed with the bears. Nearly all Bear fans are experts about what needs to be done to salvage this team. Urlacher's public criticism of his teammates was in poor taste. What exactly has Brian done for the team lately? Didn't he just sign a big contract in the last two years? Last year he was constantly blocked by offensive linemen and he's taking this year off with a wrist injury. I'm no fan of Angelo, but I have to agree with him here.

Rod from Tennessee on December 6, 2009 12:47 PM

For such a hush hush organization like the Bears, i'm sure that Urlacher's comments did raise some eyebrows with mngt. That said, for one of the very few times, i believe i'd have to agree with Angelo. As a captain, Urlacher showed no team leadership at all. If he has a problem with the team's direction, or with the team's talent, then go to Lovie, Angelo, Phillips, or even Cutler and Forte themselves. To publically criticize your teammates, especially when you're contributing nothing yourself is bogus, and bad for business. Shut up Brian, you're letting out flies when you open your trap.

As a leader for the Bears Urlacher did the right thing. He understood the heat he would take for opening his mouth. He could have sat on the sidelines and never said a word. But he manned up. Leaders should speak out, thats what they are paid to do.

And if Jerry do nothing doesn't like it, tuff sh.t

James Griffin on December 6, 2009 12:17 PM

Jerry Angelo needs to hand out a pair of those horse blinders (HE apparently wears)the the rest of the organization. If he's that far up De-Nile without a paddle then the least he could do is show the rest of the team how to whistle in the graveyard.

The Bears, for whatever reason, simply have not performed anywhere near their ability this year. Now this talk about them not having good enough athletes, is a lot of horse dung. They are weak on the offensive line, and injury prone in the defensive backfield. I suspect the physical conditioning coaches and trainers need to be fired.

The play calling...well, at this point who DOESN'T know. Chicago should take a bit from the Mel Brooks Robin Hood spoof and rename all the toilets in Chicago "Turners"! Yeah, it's THAT bad.

And one final note to Virginia McCaskey: If Bill Cowher IS actually interested in coaching in Chicago, pick up the telephone yourself and give him a call. What would Papa Bear want you to do? I think you know the answer to that.

Fire Angelo on December 6, 2009 12:15 PM

If you want to keep it internal Angeloass then you should address Urlacher internally, your draft choices are a joke, great job with the Gaines Adams trade, pure genious!

Jerry,
Do you know what your problem is??
YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!

Stratmaster on December 6, 2009 11:56 AM

Urlacher was a great player (key word WAS) but he is childish, self-centered and pompous. He won't talk to the Chicago fans and Chicago media but takes every opportunity to talk to national media and make comments like this.

The way the defense played, allowing a 40-year old QB to ahve the 2nd best game of his CAREER if he wants to call out anybody, how about that defensive unit he supposedly is the leader of?

jeff mangano on December 6, 2009 11:56 AM

Jerry, do you consider yourself part of the solution or part of the problem? Seriously, your track record sucks. You need to move on.

big b on December 6, 2009 11:28 AM
Shutup Jerry. Just shut your pie hole. At this point your irrelevant. All Urlacher was trying to do was motivate a very lethargic team.

If you had an ounce of sense you would have realized this. The 85 Bears used Urlachers tactics repeatedly to motivate their team.

Kudos to you Brian for speaking out.

The sooner the GM and coaching staff is gone the better.

Are you kidding! You don't see a difference between this team and '85? Urlacher wasn't trying to motivate anyone! He was being a self-centered, arrogant, whiner. Get your head out of your rectum and listen to WHAT is being said, instead of treating everything BU says as if he were God.

Winning each and every week???? Well then I guess you know that you are a pathetic failure that is currently in denial along with the rest of the Bears management.

if he doesn't want anyone within hurting the team then he needs to fire himself!!! and grab lovie whilst rushing the exit !

If Jerry Angelo were truly pulling for the Bears he would resign immediately...no, first he would fire Lovie, then he would resign.
