CHAMPAIGN -- After approximately 12 hours and 22 minutes, the Deron Williams Shootout came to a close. The seventh and final game ended with a 76-74 victory for Quality Education Academy out of Winston-Salem, N.C., over Brehm Prep.
A lot of eyes in the final contest were on Quality Education's Quincy Miller, who had 12 points. Miller, a Chicago native, is wanted by a number of top Division I schools, including Duke, Kentucky, Louisville and Illinois. He had 12 points Saturday despite playing with an injured wrist.
Even though Miller goes to school in North Carolina, his family still lives in Illinois, and as such, he still is considering Illinois throughout the recruitment process.
"Of course, they're going to be a player in my recruitment ... but at the same time my school is down there," Miller said.
With so many top tier schools vying for Miller, he is the subject of much speculation on the internet. He said he was even the victim of an online prank, where somebody hacked into his e-mail and e-mailed Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, saying Miller would commit to Duke. Such is the life of a highly-touted recruit who goes to school in North Carolina.
"Everybody wants me to go to North Carolina, Duke or N.C. State," Miller said. "I just listen to them but I don't know where I'm going to go yet."
As for his thoughts on Illinois, Miller said he didn't really watch when Illinois made its Final Four run in 2005, but he "watched Dee Brown highlights, though."
As for the current Illini team, Miller, a 6-7 forward, likes the fact that Illinois' post players, Mike Tisdale and Mike Davis have the freedom to shoot from the perimeter.
"That'd be really good for me."
He said he will probably visit Illinois again over the summer.
Miller did recently visit Kentucky, and enjoyed that visit, and he said he is good friends with Kentucky standout freshman John Wall.
"I'm just taking my time, trying to develop," Miller said.
