CHAMPAIGN -- Northwestern's longest drive of the season started with a quarterback sneak and ended with a quarterback sneak. In between, the 99-yard trip featured long completions from Mike Kafka to Andrew Brewer and Zeke Markshausen.

The touchdown drive injected some life into a dull game and gave Northwestern a 14-3 lead midway through the third quarter. That's where the score stands with 15 minute to play, and the Wildcats driving for another score.

Illinois quarterback Eddie McGee replaced Jacob Charest to start the third quarter. He hasn't done much, other than fumble. (Illinois recovered.) McGee has rushed for 33 yards on seven carries but overthrew Arrelious Benn on a third-down play.

What was up with the brief handshake from Zook to Fitz after the game? Zook barely made eye contact with Fitz and then ran away. Fitz then shook hands with many Illini players.
