White Sox, Cubs free agents ranked

Outfielder Jermaine Dye and relief pitcher Octavio Dotel were ranked by the Elias Sports Bureau as Type A free agents.

That means that the White Sox would receive two draft picks in the 2010 as compensation for each player should they sign with another team after being offered salary arbitration by the Sox. Cubs pitchers John Grabow and Kevin Gregg received the same ranking. Last June, the Sox received two extra picks as compensation for Oakland's signing of shortstop Orlando Cabrera.

Cubs pitcher Rich Harden was listed as a B free agent, which means the Cubs would receive a supplemental draft pick should Harden sign with another club. Sox outfielder Scott Podsednik and catcher Ramon Castro received no ranking, which means the Sox wouldn't receive any compensation should they sign with another club.

Angels infielder Chone Figgins was ranked as an A free agent.

We are a group of volunteers and starting a new initiative in a community. Your blog provided us valuable information to work on.You have done a marvellous job!

I HAVE SEEN LESS B.S. AT A LARGE CATTLE RANCH THAN IN THESE COLUMNS-LOL=GO CUBS

just cause most articles you've read say Lilly will be back in April doesn't mean he will, or is that guaranteed?

Harden pitched less than 6 innings and the others pitched 6, bravo. Cubs were hoping for at least 25 starts, he gave them 26.

if Grabow and Baker is the best Hendry can do since Harden, need say no more, lol.

I'm a Lilly fan but i don't believe anything the Cubs say.

I'm not defending Harden just saying pitchers are paid to go 6 innings, back in the day it was 9. most of the time Lou had his mind made up to pull him after so many pitches. Lou babied him, conditioned him to go 6 or less, blame Lou. he had no back up plan, no A, B, C, D, E, etc. than again you may think he's a HOF manager.

what is Lou going to do when Bradley comes back? Ricketts said no more eating most of anyone's contract, Hendry than signs that texas coach, B. Williams says he'll talk to Bradley (why), one of the Cubs says they'd welcome back bradley if he changed, and Hendry just said "Bradley is still a Cub".

finally, if you're happy that Hendry's best is Grabow and Baker, we're in for a long season in 2010.

Ted Lilly is not going to be out until the all-star break. I don't know where you got that one from. Lilly's surgery will prevent him from throwing for 4 months. That takes him into March. Every single bit of info I've read says it will take Lilly about a month from then to get back into starting pitcher shape, which will take him into April. So that means Ted Lilly is expected to return to the Cubs sometime in April. Not July. Not September. Not 2011.

And Harden is Mark Prior revisited so if you want to put up with that for another season then have at it.

And Dempster was not 35 when he got his new contract. He was in fact 31. He will turn 35 during the final season of his contract. Huge difference! He also proved his durability by coming off of a season in which he made over 30 starts and pitched over 200 innings. Harden is coming off a season in which he made 26 starts and averaged less than 6 innings per start. Again, huge difference.

And in my opinion Hendry has made two good moves since trading for Rich Harden. Picking up Jeff Baker for a minor league pitcher no one has heard of, and picking up John Grabow for the great Kevin Hart. Both are quality players who should be part of the 2010 team and we didn't give up anything important to get them.

Next time come armed with some facts, instead just wild estimates.

Well Dye won`t be offered arbitration, that much is sure........ That makes his "A" listing a moot point.

Considering Harden was given a lower ranking that could play into Harden's pay expectations, and since Harden has repeatedly said he'd like to remain a Cub, Hendry needs to try and at least do one decent manuever within the last 12 month timeline and resign Harden. The guy's only 27 and has showed his health is getting better. With Lilly out until probably the all star game, despite the Cubs propoganda, they need Harden. If they're willing to give a 35 yr. old Ryan Dempster a 4 yr. 52 million dollar contract (freakin unbelievable), then they certainly need to work something out with a 27 yr. old Rich Harden.

Truth is though, i have no faith they will.

Rich Harden will look good next year as a White Sox long reliever.

*Cubs pitcher Rich Harden was listed as a B free agent, which means the Cubs wouldn't receive any compensation should Harden sign with another club.*

as a Type B free agent, if the Cubs offer Harden arbitration and he signs with another team, the Cubs get a supplemental pick between the first and second round.
