The Sacramento Bee reports: San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis was asked today what he thought of the Bears defense.
He's not impressed.
"I think we can destroy their front," Davis said. "The guys up front, I think we can destroy them. I don't see anything spectacular about their front line. Their linebackers, I think we can handle them pretty well. I like (Adewale) Ogunleye. I like the way he's playing up front. He's about the only player I like on their defensive line. I think he's doing a good job."
Later in the day, Davis took to his twitter page (@VernonDavis85) to say: "I know people are talking about what I said today. I wasn't trying to take a shot at the Bears. I was showing confidence in my team."

Damn!!! Wow!!! It would be one thing for Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten to say this but Vernon Davis? I know he has FINALLY put a couple of solid games together but this guy was almost as big of a bust as his teammate throwing him the ball. If the Bears Def can't get hyped up for this one then they should all be fired. We shut down Houshmanzadeh when he talked trash and this is even worse. Vernon freaking DAvis????? Michael Gaines thinks this guy is a bust. Tommie, you have to step up now, time is running out on the clock and 3.2.1, hurry up and get your act together and blow this weak, injured off line into SFs backfield all day long.
I like his honesty. The only thing I took exception with is him saying Ogunleye is playing well. What the hell season is he watching? Maybe tape of the Grenn Bay game. This defense is so bad. Gave up 31 or more points in the first half twice in the last 3 weeks. Before that, since 1920 the Bears have done that 5 times. Good thing we refuse to scrap the cover-2.
and who would be (impressed with Bears' D?). Even though I'm life long Bears fan, I couldn't stop laughing when I read this. Our D is so bad, you can only laugh.
Davis is an idiot. NO WAY is Ogunleye playing well. Hope Angelo and Philips realize that when opposing players don't even try to pretend to respect the Bears in front of cameras, the team has hit rock bottom. As in the '08 Lions. The next step is outright pity, when other teams start speculating to the media about how Bears players could get their confidence back and play a competitive game again. Expect those comments to start appearing next week.
