The Blackhawks' Patrick Kane and Dustin Byfuglien will find out Jan. 1 during the broadcast of the Winter Classic from Fenway Park whether they will be members of the 23-man roster for the U.S. Olympic hockey team.
Kane, for Buffalo, and Byfuglien, from Roseau, Minn., were invited to participate in the U.S. men's hockey orientation camp in August, making them top candidates to be on Team USA, which will play in Vancouver in February.
The men's ice hockey competition begins on Feb. 16 and concludes with the gold-medeal game on Feb. 28. Team USA plays its first game Feb. 16 against Switzerland.
This year's Winter Classic will feature Boston Bruins against the Philadelphia Flyers.
