Status quo on instant replay, MLB says

By Paul Sullivan

The general managers' meeting produced no call for changes in the instant replay rules for 2010, MLB executive vice-president for Baseball Operations Jimmie Lee Solomon said today.

Solomon said there was some discussion at the GM meetings, but they ultimately decided no modifications were necessary for now. He pointed out the instant replay rule was only instituted in August of 2008, and "we have to digest what we've got."

Solomon was not surprised that instant replay was not a huge issue with GMs. A report was given to the GMs, and Solomon said "not many questions were asked" about it.

"Like anything, general managers are very methodical in their thought process," Solomon said.

Fans and media have been clamoring for instant replay changes due to a postseason littered with umpiring mistakes.

There may be changes in the draft order, Solomon said, but a worldwide draft was not discussed. He also said Commissioner Bud Selig would "look at the entire umpiring structure" in regards to how umpires are handed postseason assignments.

MLB needs to go to a 'lazer' system, for calling balls and strikes.
I don't care how many loopholes it may have, it cannot possibly be worse that watching these incompetent umpires with their 'floating strike zones'.
Plus no one would have to listen to Hawk, Stoney, and Farmeo complain endlessly.
