Uphill climb for Cubs to host 2014 All-Star Game

Commissioner Bud Selig said today he won't consider the Cubs as hosts for the 2014 All-Star game until he decides on what to do with it in 2012 and 2013.

The Cubs are hoping to have the midsummer classic at Wrigley Field for the 100th anniversary celebration of the ballpark, but 2014 would be the American League's year to host the game if the current rotation is honored.

"It's fair, since the All-Star game counts, that we keep the leagues in order," Selig said at the baseball owners meetings at  the Chicago O'Hare Hilton.  "We have a lot of clubs that have built new stadiums. And we made a lot of promises to cities, that if they built a new stadium they'd get an All-Star game. We have to live up to those promises."

great read, I honestly did not know that before!

the game of baseball would benefit by Bud Selig's immediate resignation and subsequent arrest for perjury in front of Congress. this clown with the bad haircut should be in shackles for what he has done to the current and eternal history of the game.

Yeah Bud, keeping the alternate league sites in 2006 and 2007 was real important to you huh? About as important as giving Yankee Stadium the game in 2008 because of its history, being the last year and all.

Bud is a hypocrite, and I guess we will see what 2014 holds for Wrigley when the 2012 host comes out. If Fenway gets it, then Wrigley HAS to get it, or Selig has to eat his words...again.

I guess they'll have to kick you out of Mensa now. When did the All-Star game start counting toward the World Series and when did the current agreement start? May I suggest getting your facts straight before landing on soomeone else?

I think Rio will get it.

If they started playing there in 1914, wouldn't 2013 be the 100th season? Maybe not the 100th anniversary, but the 100th season.

The All-Star game shouldn't count, Bud...and that will continue to taint your tenure as the owners' bobo commissioner.
