Southern Illinois clinches share of league title

By Fred Mitchell

Southern Illinois has secured at least a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference championship after dispatching South Dakota State 34-15 Saturday at Coughlin Alumni Stadium.

The Salukis (8-1, 7-0)  won their 13th straight conference game, tying Northern Iowa's MVFC record for most consecutive league victories.

South Dakota State (7-2, 6-1 MVFC) came into the game with the nation's top scoring defense, allowing just 89 yards rushing a game. But the Salukis ran wild. Deji Karim (127 yards, 21 carries) became the first running back to rush for over 100 yards against the Jackrabbits this season.
