An ESPN report stated that Jim Riggleman will be retained by Washington as its manager.

A source told ESPN that Riggleman would be announced as the Nationals' manager Thursday.

This would maintain a Chicagoland presence, as general manager Mike Rizzo is a Park Ridge native. Riggleman, meanwhile, managed the Cubs from 1995 to 1999. Riggleman took over for Manny Acta as interim manager last July.

A National League scouting source said Wednesday that if Riggleman was hired, he would rehire longtime friend Dan Radison as a coach. Radison served as a coach under Riggleman in San Diego and with the Cubs and recently served as a roving hitting coach in the St. Louis farm system.

The source added that Riggleman would retain Rick Eckstein as hitting coach.
