NEW YORK -- Andy Pettitte and Pedro Martinez both worked scoreless first innings in Game 6, with the Phillies' Martinez hoping to force a Game 7.
Pettitte, the third consecutive Yankee starter working on three days' rest, allowed an infield single to Shane Victorino but then got Chase Utley to hit into a double play. Martinez worked a 1-2-3 first, with Mark Teixeira flying out to the warning track in right field.
Mary J. Blige rocked Yankee Stadium with her extended version of the National Anthem, wringing emotion out of every chord.
Neither manager was talking about a Game 7 beforehand. But if the World Series does go the distance, look for the Phillies to stick with Cole Hamels against CC Sabathia. Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said that Hamels would be available in the bullpen for Game 6 -- only Game 5 winner Cliff Lee wasn't available, he said -- but he seemed a long shot to be used.
