Mike Kafka is a quick healer. The Northwestern quarterback said Monday that he expects to play Saturday when the Wildcats take on undefeated Iowa.
"My mindset is that I'm going to play," he said. "I'm looking forward to getting back out there."
Coach Pat Fitzgerald sounded equally optimistic: "He is feeling better today than yesterday, and he felt better Sunday than Saturday. At this point, we expect him to play."
Kafka went down with a left hamstring injury in the second quarter Saturday against Penn State. He did not return to the game, and the Nittany Lions rallied from a 10-3 deficit to win 34-13.
If Kafka can't go, Dan Persa will be under center.
Fitzgerald said he's also optimistic that cornerback Sherrick McManis will return to the lineup after missing the Penn State game with a leg injury.
