By Brian HamiltonSOUTH BEND, Ind. -- On Friday, Golden Tate will sit down with Charlie Weis and discuss what opportunities might await him at the professional level. The weird part for Notre Dame's explosive junior receiver is that he won't be talking to the Irish coach at the time.
Tate barely had digested Weis' official dismissal today when the NFL questions came again, and not shockingly, the next Notre Dame coach will be a factor in his choice.
"It's going to make a difference -- I don't know which way it'll make a difference," he said. "It could make a good difference or a bad difference. I guess Friday, that's when I'll have a better understanding of that."
Retaining Weis wouldn't have ensured
that Tate would be back in 2010 to follow up a record-smashing year of
93 catches and 1,496 yards, but it apparently would have helped.
"I don't know if it would have guaranteed it," Tate said. "It wouldn't have guaranteed it, but I think I would have been leaning more on coming back. At this point, what Jimmy (Clausen) does is very important on my decision. The coaching change is very important on my decision. So I don't know."

Hi nice page there. keep it going.I seriously love to browse your post.Last of all have great night
One of the commenters refers to "girl assaulting Jimmy Clausen." This is a serious charge and I don't get the feeling that the poster has carefully investigatd it or cares at all whether it is true. He just enjoys saying it. I think this comment should be removed. I am tempted to report it to the ND athletic department. Athletes may be celebrities but they have the same right to be treated fairly as everyone else.
btw, Jimmy Clausen just might be the first player taken in the draft. Charlie's recruit and protege.
Alan, you know not of what you speak.
When a blue chip athlete like Golden Tate accepts a scholarship, it's a two way street. You realize that the University profits from the relationship too, don't you? They make millions on these kids, and only a small portion of the athletes ever even make an NFL roster.
Moreover, a lot of these kids come from poor families. How can you criticize one for taking advantage of an opportunity to change their circumstances?
You may not be concerned about the possibility of Tate blowing out his knee before he ever collects a pay check, but maybe he and his family are.
Finally, as you know, ND only recruits good students with high character. Golden Tate isn't a slouch or a gang banger. If the NFL spits him out after 2.5 years, he'll certainly have every opportunity to complete his degree and get a real job.
Maybe you should get a real life.
I might have stayed if Weis were still coach. I might stay if Jimmy stays. I might stay or I might leave, depending on the new coach.
Nonesense. If a university offers you a full scholarship, you have a responsibility to yourself to see it out. Study and play until you graduate.
These egoists, who can't wait to start their 2.5-year NFL careers before they're chucked out into the street with barely a high school diploma to back them up, make me sick.
