PALO ALTO, Calif. -- As if there was any doubt, what is likely to be the final game of the Charlie Weis Era at Notre Dame would race to a heart-stopping finish.
And the general malaise pervading the program in the last month didn't abate Saturday, with Stanford recovering from a couple double-digit deficits to emerge as 45-38 victors in a game that featured very little defensive interest from either side.
The fourth quarter alone featured a 28-yard touchdown reception on which the Irish's Golden Tate went sideline-to-sideline to score, which was followed by an 18-yard Toby Gerhart touchdown pass on a 4th-and-4 for Stanford.

Go Cardinal!
I'm gonna call ND all next week and ask for Charlie Weis. When the exasperated receptionist finally says, "Sir, I keep telling you every day: CHARLIE WEIS IS NO LONGER THE FOOTBALL COACH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME," I'll reply, "I know; I just love hearing it!"
