It has been glorious and stunning first half of football for Northwestern, easily its best 30 minutes of the season.
Northwestern leads Wisconsin 27-14 after producing 292 yards of offense and two gorgeous touchdown catches.
Mike Kafka is making a bid to be voted as the Big Ten's first-team quarterback. He has completed 15 of 23 passes for 210 yards and connected with Andrew Brewer on a diving touchdown catch. Receiver Zeke Markshausen threw for a TD pass on a flea-flicker.
If this keeps up, Northwestern will make a compelling case to be selected over Wisconsin for the Jan. 1 Outback Bowl.
Even if Wisconsin beats Hawaii to finish 9-3, one game better than Northwestern, the Wildcats would have a few advantages: a head-to-head victory, end-of-season momentum and the fact that they haven't played in a Florida bowl game since the 1997 Citrus.
