A stirring first half gave way to a mistake-filled third quarter at Ryan Field. Northwestern's Jacob Schmidt fumbled, and there were penalties galore on both sides.

But bottom line, the Wildcats keep making big plays on both sides of the ball. Heading into the fourth quarter, Northwestern leads 30-24 and has a 3rd-and-12 at the Wisconsin 17.

Mike Kafka completed a 49-yard pass to Sidney Stewart to put the Wildcats in position to add to their lead and pull off the upset.

One other good sign for the Wildcats: Under coach Pat Fitzgerald, they are 15-5 in games decided by eight points or less.

UPDATE: Stefan Demos just made a 34-yard field goal to put the Wildcats ahead, 33-24.
