Northwestern: a tale of two quarterbacks

By Teddy Greenstein

Northwestern is employing two different offenses at Iowa, and neither has been particularly effective.

When quarterback Dan Persa is in, he runs the ball. When Mike Kafka plays, he throws.

Persa has rushed six times for 32 yards but has not attempted a pass. Kafka, clearly bothered by a hamstring injury, has passed up terrific scrambling opportunities and pitched the ball early on option runs. He has completed 3 of 7 passes.

Northwestern trailed 10-0 until a moment ago. Corey Wootton sacked Ricky Stanzi in the end zone, and tackle Marshall Thomas jumped on the ball for a touchdown. Iowa now leads, 10-7.
