NIU's Spann and Hanson earn weekly MAC honors

Northern Illinois running back Chad Spann and linebacker Cory Hanson were named Mid-American Conference West Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday.

Spann, a junior from Indianapolis, earned the offensive award for the second week in a row after rushing for a career-high 174 yards on only 11 carries in the Huskies' 50-6 rout of Eastern Michigan last Thursday night. He scored the first two times he touched the ball from 65 and 79 yards, giving him 15 rushing touchdowns this season.

Hanson, a senior from Minneapolis, also earned his second MAC West Player of the Week honor of the year, leading NIU with nine tackles, five solo, He had a pair of tackles for loss versus Eastern Michigan.
