Northern Illinois wasted little time getting on the scoreboard against Eastern Michigan Thursday night.
Tommy Davis returned the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown. Davis, a redshirt freshman from East St. Louis, Ill., appeared to be bottled up around the Eastern Michigan 28-yard line before breaking loose for the score. Mike Salerno's extra point attempt was blocked by Brandon Slater and the Huskies led 6-0.
It was the first NIU kickoff return for a touchdown since 2002, when Michael Turner ran one back 93 yards against Wake Forest.
