NIU leads Ball State 16-13 at halftime

DEKALB -- Northern Illinois took a 16-13 over Ball State entering halftime of their Mid-American Conference game on Thursday.

NIU moved ahead 16-7 when Chad Spann scored his 17th touchdown of the season (16th rushing) with 3:06 to go in the opening period. The 62-yard scoring drive included a 35-yard end-around by Nathan Palmer.

Ian McGarvey booted a 38-yard field goal on the second play of the second period to draw Ball State to within 16-10, and added a 30-yard field goal at the 6:47 mark to cap a 13-play, 43-yard drive.
