Michigan State forward Raymar Morgan thought it was behind him.
Last season the forward suffered a cocktail of illnesses and a broken nose en route to the NCAA title game, which the Spartans lost to North Carolina. Now the senior team captain will miss at least No. 2 Michigan State's season opener on Friday against Florida Gulf Coast because of an ankle sprain.
"He's been in rehab morning, noon and night here," Spartans coach Tom Izzo said. "He's making some improvement. ... He's tough enough, he'll play hurt. But right now his ankle has responded a lot but not to the level it needs."
Izzo said Morgan is "a big question mark" for the second game against Gonzaga on Tuesday.
