CHAMPAIGN -- Former backup Eddie McGee came in as the No. 2 quarterback again for Illinois.

Redshirt freshman Jacob Charest earned his first career start in place of injured starter Juice Williams, but he connected on just 5 of 14 passes for 34 yards in the first half. Illinois coach Ron Zook turned to McGee, who has been mostly used at receiver and in certain offensive situations since a disappointing start against Michigan State.

McGee went 3-and-out in his first drive after halftime.
