Bears coach Lovie Smith was asked today if he understands the scrutiny he faces, particularly in the aftermath of lopsided losses to the Vikings, Bengals and Cardinals.
"Yes, I think I do,'' Smith said. "I realize that we haven't played as well. There are high hopes, especially after the way we started. And as for why, there are a lot reasons why. But we realize where we are, and that's why we're going to continue to look at what we're doing, which we do each week. We try to evaluate everything we're doing from scheme to the calls we're making to the players.''
The Bears' 4-7 record has Smith's future status in question. He was asked if his past successes, including a trip to the Super Bowl, should keep him in good standing with upper management.

"I can talk a lot about this weekend,'' Smith said. "I'm looking short-term, too. When you're in a situation like this, you don't look any further than that. All of your thoughts are occupied by trying to put a better product on the football field."
In terms of injuries, Smith said Lance Briggs (knee), Charles Tillman (concussion) and Orlando Pace (groin) continue to be evaluated. Briggs had an MRI Monday morning.
"At this point, Lance has a knee injury that kept him out of parts of the game Sunday,'' Smith said. "No more than that. ...You can't play doctor or try to assume, trying to figure out what might happen.''
Smith said he wouldn't rule out moving Chris Williams to left tackle if Pace is out against the Rams Sunday. Williams remains the Bears' left tackle of the future.

This isn't really a Lovie problem.
(If they get blown out the last two games, maybe.)
This is a Jerry Angelo problem.
This team has no talent.
Most of Angelo's draft picks have been busts.
[And add Chris Williams to that list.]
If Tom Brady was QBing this team, with no line and no receivers, you'd think they'd be doing any better?
Even Tom Brady can't throw lying face down on the turf.
You see, this is what I love about anonymous posting, especially when covering topics that are emotional charged. So Capitalist doesn't like what I wrote, and spends an hour or two mocking up an education so he/she can appear to come across as some literary/grammatic giant, when in fact his/her real life is most likely far from that reality. Careful posters, check your papers thoroughly before turning them in, professor idiot has a sharp eye, a critical ear and apparently a very limited social life.
Oh, and btw, the word resolve is what I mean to use in the context of separation. I could easily waste my time, tear your paragraph apart and find multiple structural and grammatic problems, buy why would I do that? I obvious know what you are intending to convey.
@ chifan: Who, exactly, says that Cutler is not partially responsible for this wreched season? One of your uneducated drinking buddies? As for his supporters trying to "resolve" him from his responsibilities, I believe the correct word from the English language would be "absolve." I suggest you invest in a college-level dictionary/thesaurus set before you make any more attempts at writing your inane drivel on these matters. Then maybe you'll be able to determine when it is appropriate to use the word "you're" instead of "your."
Thats what Weiss thought at Nortre Dame! He and his 10 m are gone! Get rid of Lovie!!!!!
Your a douche, but unfortunately are mostly right. jay not getting his fair share of blame by many, instead pointing the finger at everything else, and I mean everything as long as it resolves baby jay from his responsibilities of being a franchise player and making the TEAM better around him, being a leader on and off and making plays when they have to be made. Other than that, jay has been a tremendous asset to the club, well worth mortgaging the future. His inherit abilities to locate and deliver absolute strikes to opposing defensive players at the perfect time (typically in the red zone) will only add to his growing list of accomplishments, which currently stand at ZERO.
Coach Lovie - We love you in Denver. They don't appreciate
you here I can tell. Hey, they don't understand how hard your job is and who do they think they are? Let THEM come in here and try to be coach! That would show them. None of this is a coach's fault, you're just doing the best with what you have. The owners gutted the franchise for Jay "dough boy" Cutler - that wasn't YOUR fault, now was it? Years and years of not investing in the OL are not YOUR fault of course. Hey it's hard economic times out there and I will get my 11 million dollars by GOD! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT FIRING ME. I have you by the balls!
