PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Give Jimmy Clausen this: Even with a glaring shiner on his left eye, he sat down and took more questions than his coach did Saturday night.

But the Notre Dame quarterback did not shed any light on the incident last weekend that left him with the black eye, the result of a punch delivered at a South Bend pub in the hours after a Senior Day loss to Connecticut.

"You guys have talked about it for a week or so," Clausen said. "You see my eye right now. But to be honest, I'm really just disappointed and sorry for all those seniors that have to end their careers, and we couldn't finish it off."

He did say the eye affected his play "not at all," an assessment backed by his 340 yards passing and five touchdowns.

"You guys saw me out there (at practice), and we just went about our business," Clausen said.

Why in the world would he want to talk about how he had his arse kicked by - gasp! - an everyday, ordinary, mere mortal! I'm sure his ego wouldn't let him do that.

Guy gets into a fight, keeps it to himself, performs on game day.

I didn't know people like this still existed.
