The Pantagraph of Bloomington, Ill., reports: In a coup for Illinois State football, the Redbirds have entered into an agreement for a home-and home series against Ball State, a member of the Mid-American Conference and the big-school Football Bowl Subdivision.
Given that Illinois State is a Championship Subdivision program, the prestige of getting to host Ball State in 2013 and then playing a return game at Muncie, Ind., in 2014, is being hailed as a major step forward for the Redbirds' program.
"A game with Ball State at home will give us a lot of credibility when we are out trying to recruit student-athletes," ISU coach Brock Spack said.
Ball State has struggled this season, falling to 1-9 after Thursday night's 26-20 loss at Northern Illinois.
