SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Figures that Golden Tate would break two receiving records on one play, and do it while lining up at tailback on the play.

Notre Dame's junior receiver caught a swing pass in the first quarter against Connecticut today and ran it 39 yards up the sideline, setting two new single-season standards in the process. That was his 79th reception of the year, breaking the record of 78 set by Jeff Samardzija in 2006.

It also gave Tate 1,253 yards receiving at the time, again breaking a record Samardzija set by recording 1,249 yards in 2005.

Thus far today, Tate has six catches for 96 yards a touchdown in barely more than a quarter of play.
