White Sox's Ken Williams, other GMs express anger over waiver leaks

White Sox general manager Ken Williams planned to express his frustration over the lack of secrecy over players placed on the waiver wire.

Williams did squeeze in a few words during Tuesday's general managers' session, but only after a few competitors expressed their disappointment.

"I didn't have to bring it up," said Williams, mindful of a report in early August in which a source told ESPN that the Sox were most likely the team that put in a waiver claim for outfielder Alex Rios.

"Some other people brought it up, actually. I did say my little two cents, but I didn't have to say it as strongly as I felt like saying it because some others were just as unhappy about it, if not more."

Players placed on the waiver wire aren't supposed to have their names revealed, but that hasn't stopped their names from being leaked by undisclosed teams.

"There are certain things that I have grown to accept as part of the process of the business," Williams said. "While it can frustrate you, I can be frustrated to the point of wanting to address it. It's not going to ruin my day. It's at this stage of the game. It's 10 years (as a GM). If I want to keep my sanity for the next few, I got to learn to ignore a lot of that."
