Terrible news for Northwestern basketball fans: Top scorer Kevin Coble injured his left foot at practice Tuesday, and it could be serious.

One team official said that the best-case scenario has Coble being sidelined for a few weeks. Worst case is that Coble will need surgery and might be lost for the season.

Coble will be re-examined Friday, the day of NU's season opener against Northern Illinois at 7 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Coble, a 6-foot-8 forward, has led the Wildcats in both scoring and rebounding for three straight seasons.
