From David Kaplan, WGN-AM 720: Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was involved in a fight outside a South Bend bar early Sunday morning, according to a report Monday evening by WGN-AM's David Kaplan.

According to Kaplan, Clausen has two black eyes from the altercation at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. The incident comes on the heels of the Irish's overtime loss to Connecticut, their fifth of the season, leaving Notre Dame at 6-5.

The Clausen report isn't news Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis wants to hear as he faces his own scrutiny with a final game at Stanford Saturday. Athletic director Jack Swarbrick is expected to decides Weis' fate at the school early next week.

The Tribune's Brian Hamilton reports that a South Bend police spokesman said Monday no police reports were filed over the weekend that involved Clausen. The particulars of the confrontation are thus unclear, though a person answering the phone at CJ's, the bar in question, said the incident "absolutely did not take place inside the bar."

I live in Chennai. I want to have a college degree in arts but my father wants to send me to study medicine. How can I explain to him that funds and respect is not everything. Or at least, that you can earn it in other ways.

ohh…nice post but really?/? :P

FWIW, when I went to school there I had Tim Brown in my business statistics class and he showed up to every class even though it was second semester senior year and he had already won the Heismann. He is/was a class act.

Notre Dame has long been known as a "diploma mill". What are you smoking.....I do not know one graduate from ND, athlete or otherwise who did not receive an excellent education. If an athlete's grades are not up to par, they attend summer school. If this does not help, they leave the University until the grades are brought up...check out the several players who are back this year after being asked to leave last year until their grades were up. I am 60 and know several football players including the son and grandson of Leon Hart! They tell a totally different story. They had to work very hard to pass their classes and graduate! I also personally know a member of the baseball team who tells the same story! He is a brilliant man now a CEO of a company here in Detroit, but at ND he had to be tutored occasionally just to keep up with the academics and graduate. I refuse to listen to the ignorant smut of the posts on here. Go and get a college degree from a real college before you open your mouth!

I can care less what Jimmy Clausen is going through i hope the same thing happens 2 Dayne Crist they should have stayed in California a lot of kids think it's a good idea 2 go out of state people don't like you as huch as you would think should have went 2 UCLA i hope you guys stay in indiana when you leave because California don't want you if i see you there will be 2 more black eyes...

It's funny that some ND bashers seemingly spend all their free time trolling for ND stories.
Must be ND's intangible mystique -- or is it their outlet when their right hand gets tired?

To the clown who wrote that the average ACT score for an athlete at ND is 20, you are sadly mistaken. I am a teacher who knows which of my students get accepted at ND. The average ACT for students is 32. The average for athletes is between 26-28, depending on the year. Take a listen to Golden Tate, Michael Floyd and Jimmy Clausen speak. They are obviously educated young men. Stop quoting numbers that you know nothing about. The jealousy of all those who hate ND is just that---jealousy. We may not have the best football program, but we have very academically achieved athletes.
96% graduation rate..highest in the country!

Man a lot of hate towards Clausen and ND. Some of you people, Hmmm people? I suppose thats the right word are just bitter losers at life.

Bringing up him being held back in grade school? Big deal. So was my son and now he's at UW on his way to being a fine lawyer. Some people are slow starters.

Grow up, and if you are already like the supposed 60yo, stop hating. It will only do you good in the long term.

bigdog01319, you are such a clown. You sound like one of those kids that still has a grudge because ND didn't recruit you and/or you were not smart enough to get in...get over it and move on

Ho wwonderful it continues to be to see ND stinking up the joint. It does continue to sicken me, however, that NBC --Notre Dame's bed partner -- continues to put this slop on the air. It's an unfair and unequitable recruiting tool to have a major national network in your hip pocket, yet this recruiting advantage and all the glossy, cheesy marketing hype the network and its announcers put on every week still doesn't get it done on the field. These unfair advantages and the public being force fed the hype is one major reason why so many despise this school and it's football program.

Notre Dame Law Student on November 24, 2009 8:01 AM

The person in charge of overseeing academic standards for the football team is one of the smartest women in America, Prof. Bellia. I would love to see any of the commentators who insult our standards to attempt to take even a freshman level class at the school, let alone reach her academic and moral achievement. To say she is part of some grand conspiracy to inflate grades is insane.

The explicit envy of people who blindly hate Notre Dame saddens me, especially since we have so many students from poor backgrounds that still come here and achieve. If some of you had studied more and complained less when you were a kid, maybe you would be one of them.

Veer,

Claussen must be stupid if he was a starting QB in HS at 14 as a frosh, and turned 19 as a senior. He'd be 14 as a fresh, 15 soph, 16 junior, 17 senior....then 18 later that year. Or, you could just be a moron, along with all the other ND apologists.

There is a reason the average ND players ACT is about 20 (terrible), they lower the standards. ND is just failing, and it's so easy to laugh at them!

ND will get destroyed this weekend.

I wish they would keep fat Charlie though!

Oaks Christian HS Hater

Clausen was starting high school football games at Oaks Christian as a 14 year old freshman (look it up) playing against 18 year old players. He turned 19 during his senior year which is normal when your birthday is in September. He played in flag football leagues where there is an emphasis on passing as opposed to youth football league doing tackle. How can you argue with what he has accomplished. Let's spend a bunch of time handing the ball off instead of practicing what gets you to the next level. Oaks Christian and Clausen are laughing all the way to the bank.

L. Holtz (anonymous) on November 23, 2009 11:48 PM

Well, at least he won't have to wear those Adidas eye patches this week..........

School can put that money towards Weis' buyout.

Walter Fitch on November 23, 2009 11:39 PM

He has to clear medical waivers before he can practice. According to reports he was crying and they needed to shoot him up with morphine. That little Asian guy must have a heck of a punch.

Frank Spitner on November 23, 2009 11:34 PM

They say he has to clear medical waivers before he's allowed to return. I guess he got clocked really good, they say he was crying when they brought him in and they had to shoot him full of morphine.

Newsweek places Florida in its Most Selective category. You can see UF's athlete graduation rates at this website:

Oaks Christian HS H8R on November 23, 2009 11:22 PM

Jimmy was 19 his senior year at Oaks. He was playing against guys 2,3,4 years younger. In high school, that makes a difference.
Jimmy never played "youth football" growing up. He just had a QB coach/geru.
Just remember when he came to S. Bend to announce his LOI. Stretch Hummer...CIF State rings...National Championship talk.
No one likes him...or his brothers...or Oaks Christian and their "recruting" practices.

Here's the good news--the two black eyes will take the attention away from Clausen's lush head of hair--the Golden Dome!!

Clausen went to Oaks Christian High and now is an undergrad at a Catholic University. If someone doesn't get a handle on this kid he'll be rooming with Todd Marinovich after he bombs out of the NFL.

From what I heard, he hit on a girl and her boyfriend pummeled him. I guess a lot of people know the guy and he's well liked. He's a japanese engineering student studying in the US.

Don't act like ND is an exception to all the other schools who go to great schools. Many players get special treatment. Stop pointing out the pre-med exceptions and Brady Quinn. That is not the norm.

Wow. As a Notre Dame booster, I am shocked.

He certainly is no Jordan Congdon.

You are correct that I do not know your age but your immaturity comes through in the posts, so I have to assume you are not older than 40! Anyone who has been around as long as I have knows better than to act so ignorant.
You of course do not have to believe my credibility....I am just stating the facts that I know since my uncle was one of the teachers on staff. Believe what you want...I'll believe what I know! You act like all the other posts are credible but not mine because I am an ND supporter! Hate is bred through ignorance. I do not hate any school. I have more respect for Stanford, Boston College, Purdue, and the other schools who actually have standards. We may never again have a great football team but I am very proud of ND for a lot of other reasons!

RPM
Yes I do know a lot about ND! I am sixty years old with lots of ND knowledge before you were born! I never said in my post that I knew a lot about other universities...but check out the graduation rate for Florida and LSU Athletes. It is public record. Also ask what their majors are! My own son in law went to Michigan State and told me what the majors of the athletes were. It was a joke....they didn't even take their own tests! This is not the case at ND. I know some of the teachers personally. They do not "give" grades to the athletes!
As an example: Last year at ND, the best hockey player was a pre-med major with a 3.9 grade point!

Two black eyes, eh? You should see what the other girl looks like.

Adios Charlie on November 23, 2009 9:42 PM

Imagine being 22 and having the weight of a historic football program on your shoulders. (Like it or hate it, ND has some history.) Now go to a bar with your buddies and have half the drunks in there give you crap most of the night. Should he have fought? No, but HE'S 22 YEARS OLD! Give the kid a break.

jeez people....he got in a fight outside a bar at 2:30am. some of you are acting like he committed a felony. crap like this happens to anyone. we were all there at one point in our lives.

SaveItTommyMo on November 23, 2009 9:35 PM

Hey Tommy Mo, Clausen was busted with alcohol when he was underage, he didn't miss any practices or games. I guess you'd like to pretend nothing has changed since the Knute Rockne era. ND will gladly put out a press release when they suspend a career backup, or simply bury any news when it can.

Don't sit there and pretend otherwise. If the reports of ND looking to hire Brian Kelly are true, you'll soon get used to reports like this.

1.Clausen was not held back twice in grade school! He had a late birthday, so too young by today's standards to enter school at 5. In most states you must be 5 by September 1.
2.If he turned 21 in his freshman year, how could he be 22 in his junior year?
3.Unless you were at the bar, shut up!
4.ND has high standards for all its athletes. That is why they have a 96% graduation rate! Also why they can't get all the athletes that Florida, LSU etc. have.
5.Athletes at ND cannot major in "Football Management" etc.
6.Check out the majors of all the players.
7.You ND haters make me sick! You are so damn jealous that you could never get in.
8. By the way, Jimmy has a legitimate 3.4 average in college. Grade school is far from college. I myself, a teacher with a Masters Degree, did not do great in elementary school but thrived in High School and College!

Lorenzo Crawford and Justin Smith were originally charged with rape along with Donald Dykes and Abram Elam. However, prosecutors decided to drop the charges against Crawford and Smith after Dykes was found innocent and Elam was convicted of the lesser charge of sexual battery.

@toansweryourquestion: Your facts are incorrect. 3 weren't even tried, and only one was convicted, and not for rape.

ND = Hypocrites on November 23, 2009 9:26 PM

I hope this is plastered all over the media. ND fans/lemmings are always quick to point out how there are thugs at other schools when their players get in trouble.

Hypocrites.

I hear a lot of ignorant speculation in these comments from people who obviously never attended a day of classes at ND (where you see football actually studying and sweating grades in real classes) or bothered to read anything but headlines (ND suspends players for entire seasons over infractions like drinking underage or DUIs, things that get players at other schools held out for the first half against a lightweight). It's obscene they way people call ND arrogant while at the same time doing everything they can to drag through the mud the one institution that tries to both win and educate at the same time. Yeah it's hard to be perfect, so why do people get their rocks off every time ND falls anywhere short of that? Sad.

Some very ugly souls haunt this locale. I won't be back, but what posters here know about Notre Dame could be stuffed up their butts, which is where I suggest they shove it.

Really people, if you're going to comment on things like clausen's age then make sure you're info is correct. @Jclaws Clausen was held back by his parents, not the school. They thought he'd be a better quarterback if he was older aka stronger.

10 to 1 it was a disgruntled senior who had just seen a losing game during his last time in the stadium that popped him one. It wouldn't surprise me. I know quite a few who would have loved to last year as well.

Some very ugly souls haunt this locale. I won't be back, but what posters here know about Notre Dame could be stuffed up their butts, which is where I suggest they shove it.

What a bunch of ridiculous comments here. It's so easy to spout off behind your keyboard.

What if you found out Clausen was sucker punched and not in "a brawl?" You still want to call him a thug?

@ToAnswerYourQuestion: you clearly have no idea of what you speak. Go ahead and keep pretending you do, though. What you wrote is so far from the truth it's not even worth explaining.

ToAnswerYourQuestion on November 23, 2009 9:10 PM

Well, ND does a good job of pretending it didn't happen, but just a few years ago several players gang raped a student. ND begged the girl not to tell police and let them handle it internally (and keep it quiet). ND was then forced to kick the players off the team, not that it mattered since all but 1 was convicted. Good luck finding a worse incident at any school, let alone one that a school tried to cover up.

putting notre dame and unlv in the same sentence shows how bright you really are.....dumb stirgil

Getting drunk and fighting in a bar is requirement for playing in the NFL.

someonesmarterthenthatguy on November 23, 2009 9:01 PM

1.) When's the last time a ND player had an off-field incident? Notre dame doesn't exactly have a bad rep. 2.) Dude is a junior and 22. He can drink. 3.) Notre dame has the highest graduation rate of football players in the country. Its about twice that of schools like Texas and Florida. Just saying...

The Ambiguously Gay Emu on November 23, 2009 8:58 PM

J-Claw was probably hitting on someone else's boyfriend.

Maybe Jimmy showed him his rings.

J Claws O-Ring on November 23, 2009 8:55 PM

Hey moron, he was 21 a couple weeks into his freshman year. He was held back TWICE in grade school. It seems he's no better at fighting than he is at passing classes (although he's had no trouble once he got to ND...hmmmm).

weis the clown has got to go, do not delay
