Left-hander Ted Lilly underwent a left shoulder arthroscopy on Tuesday, the Cubs announced this afternoon. According to a press release, general manager Jim Hendry said Lilly will be ready to return sometime in April.

Dr. Lewis Yocum performed the surgery and a debridement of the shoulder. Lilly said at the end of the season he didn't expect to have anything done, but obviously felt pain in the shoulder and had a procedure performed.

Teams don't need a 5 starters in April anyway because of all the off days. It doesn't sound like a very major procedure, I think it'll be ok I figure.

He gone!

April? That means he will miss spring training and maybe the first week or two of the season. Let's hope he does well in rehab because we cannot afford to have Ted Lilly miss very many starts. I wonder if this also means the Cubs will hold off on signing him to an extension and see how his shoulder holds up?
