SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The injury status of Notre Dame tight end Kyle Rudolph remained unclear as of midday Sunday, but X-rays on his injured shoulder came back negative and seemingly eliminated the worst-case scenario.
"They were afraid he broke his collarbone, then they X-rayed him and it came back negative," Irish coach Charlie Weis said Sunday. "He walked out of the locker room with his arm in a sling, but I don't know what the status of that is yet."
Rudolph injured his left shoulder on a third-quarter catch in the Irish's 23-21 loss to Navy on Saturday.
Meanwhile, backup quarterback Dayne Crist's Friday surgery for a torn ACL went "very, very well," according to Weis. Crist suffered the injury Oct. 31 versus Washington State.
"Better than we would have expected," Weis said. "Usually when you have an ACL, there's a lot of residual damage along with that. This was clean as can be. It was a freak pop of the ACL, it only took about an hour to fix and the prognosis is very good. Probably a (recovery) timeframe faster than normally expected."
