Charlie Weis says Notre Dame TE Kyle Rudolph's injury not as bad as feared

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame tight end Kyle Rudolph's injury-spurred exit was among the pile of lowlights in a 23-21 loss to Navy on Saturday, but evidently looks were a bit deceiving with the sophomore.

Rudolph appeared to have injured his left shoulder on a catch along the sidelines late in the third quarter. He walked to the locker room still favoring the shoulder and did not reappear, but Irish coach Charlie Weis said trainers allayed his worst fears.

"The first word back to me was collarbone, and I thought, here we go again," Weis said, referring to the injury that caused receiver Michael Floyd to miss five games.

"I don't know for sure what the complete diagnosis is, but the medical people came back and said he'll be gone for the day, but we should have him back. I'll have to wait and see what they say (Sunday)."
