So LeBron James said to reporters in Miami late Thursday that he's switching his uniform number from 23 to 6 next season in honor of Michael Jordan.
"I just think what Michael Jordan has done for the game has to be recognized some way soon," James said. "There would be no LeBron James, no Kobe Bryant, no Dwyane Wade if there wasn't Michael Jordan first.
"He can't get the logo (Hall of Famer Jerry West's silhouette adorns the NBA's logo), and if he can't, something has to be done. I feel like no NBA player should wear 23. I'm starting a petition, and I've got to get everyone in the NBA to sign it. Now, if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it."
James also said he no longer plans to talk about his impending free-agency status next July. But making something out of nothing, Jordan's No. 23 is obviously retired by the Bulls. And the last person to wear No. 6 for the Bulls was Shannon Brown, who had a brief stint in the 2007-08 season.
Asked by Chicago media members on Nov. 5 if he'd consider signing with the Bulls, James said he's envisioned playing for every NBA team at one time. The Bulls could be one of the several teams able to offer a maximum free-agent contract next July.

So LeBron has no respect for Bill Russell and Dr J?
You jump from LeBron James changing uniforms numbers to taking it as a sign that he's signing with Chicago?
He's staying in Cleveland, I wish everyone would just realize that. He's going where he has the best chance to win, and that is in Cleveland.
Not to dampen the parade, but didnt Pat Riley also retire the number 23 in Miami in honor of MJ, a possibly more attractive destination if DWade stays in south florida.
Well, the #6 we have in Chicago right now isn't doing too well. The nice thing about basketball is that a star player doesn't need any wide receivers or an offensive line.
Good for Lebron James! Much repect to the young man, and its a shame it hasn't been done already. I'm all for it, and I also think LBJ will look GREAT in a #6 Bulls jersey next season!
